The words of Jesus in today‘s Gospel, “Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and, to God, the things that are God’s,” have been discussed and argued over for centuries.  So, what do they mean?  Well, in order to understand anything in life, we need to begin at its source.  The source of these words are Jesus, or, God, Himself.

And, what do we know about God?  We know that He wants us to understand who we are, and, how to live in a united way with those who have some responsibility for our well being in a physical sense, especially, as it pertains to governmental authority, while holding fast to the fact that God has to be the source, even of that authority.

I encourage you to read the Catechism of the Catholic Church for a more in depth understanding then I am able to provide in this short space.  You will find the teaching under the 4th Commandment, paragraphs 2234 - 2246, and, in paragraph 2242, you will even find the very words of Jesus, “Render...”

God bless you,
Fr. Robert
