We are always meant to learn something from Scripture that we can apply to our lives.  In our country today, we are inundated with violence, strife, mayhem and noise, all proposing to come under the banner of wanting to be heard.  I would like to pose another thought, “rather, do we want to hear, and if so, who do we want to hear?  We know that Elijah was escaping from the threats of Queen Jezebel, who was out to kill him.

Violence, threats and mayhem were prominent in his life, and the earthquake, the wind and the fire represented these things.  Sometimes people can mistakenly think that God is found there, but, He isn’t.  Instead, He is in the quiet whisper where His voice can be heard and listened to.  Elijah shields his face out of a reverent awe of God, and the fact that He has something to reveal to him, namely, that He has a solution to Elijah’s situation.  God always has a solution for us, if we are willing to listen to Him.

God bless you,
Fr. Robert
